Frequently Asked Questions

Can I eat prior to my surgery?

As part of our standard of care, we ask that all surgical patients do not eat after midnight prior to their surgery date to provide safe anesthesia care.

Can I take my medication?

You may continue to take medications as prescribed by your physician. It is very important that you check with your surgeon and your primary physician if you are taking blood thinners and diabetic medications. Together they will decide if you should stop these medications.

What should I wear?

Loose fitting comfortable clothing is preferred. Please leave any valuables and jewelry at home. If possible, wear a button-down shirt.

Do I need to bring anything with me the day of surgery? When should I arrive at the center for my procedure?

Bring with you a photo ID such as a driver’s license and your insurance cards. When you arrive at the center the staff will review with you your financial responsibility, Advanced Directives, and other important information. A member of our surgical team will call you one to two days prior to your scheduled surgical date and review pre-op instructions and answer any questions you may have. Your surgeon’s office will call you the day before your scheduled date and tell you the time that you are to arrive at the center. Your arrival time will be approximately one to one and half hours before your scheduled surgery.

What can I expect after surgery is finished?

Immediately after surgery you will be taken to our post-operative area where you will be monitored by our clinical staff. You will be offered a drink and light snack. You will receive written instructions on what you should do at home and you will be prepared for discharge from our center.

NJ State regulations and our policy dictate that you cannot drive yourself home after receiving anesthesia. We also recommend that you have someone with you at home after your surgery.
